IceSpire Trempos and the Rune Circle
Going underneath the IceSpire fort Tyrael's Scepter of Elzar began to vibrate. Just as Skenneth had promised it appears there was one of the Elzar Rune Circles down here, and the strange Scepter and its purpose was becoming more clear.
Before following the scepter to the Circle, they scouted out the caverns underneath the fortress. Peppered with a Tempo population and village, they scouted out the leader and his forces in a large ice platform cavern and rushed into the battle them.
Trempo Kings attacked hurling ice boulders and them as Tyrael unleashed lightning magic in the room. Ruby used her acrobatic abilities to leap around the ice platforms and destroy the Trempos. In total the Trempo forces were substantial and nearly won the day, but Tyrael and Ruby succeeded in the end.
They gathered some frostspire for Chable then headed to the Rune Circle, ignoring Skenneth's warnings.
Once there Ruby began to explore the room while Tyrael studied the powerful and legendary Elzar Rune Circle. His scepter was not only detecting it but speaking to him through magic and showing him a pathway to manipulate the circle. He knew from the scepter that the circle was in a "half open" state in which he could choose to close it or open it if he wished. He also sensed a powerful magic flowing from the circle calling to him.
He knew that Cranabus was probably at play here in the circles activation but he felt a need to gain this power hiding under the surface so he opened the Elzar Rune Circle. Immediately magic far too powerful for him to absorb began flowing out and into his body - it had to be re-directed or he would be sacrificed for Cranabus - so he re-directed the magic at RUBY - destroying her instantly and absorbing the magic from the Rune Circle. He could sense it wanted to remain open but he knew any longer would destroy him so he sealed it with the Scepter.
Tyrael came to realize he had knowledge of ancient forgotten spells and one of his swords now glowed with a new magical enchantment.
He carried Ruby back to Gobblebrook and to the Maldric Church. They were able to hone their magic enough to raise Ruby back.
